Names, a poem by Dorothy Aldis, came to me by way of Serendipity. I was looking for a nice illustration for WHO HAS SEEN THE WIND and ran across this adorable poem that I’d never seen before. I found it in Childcraft’s POEMS AND RHYMES 1976 on p. 125. A bit like Jack Prelutsky’s BIRDS, this poem is comprised mostly of the names of flowers. I was first struck by the gorgeous illustration (by H. A. Aldridge), but was then captivated by the poem of flower names. A tune immediately popped into my head to sing it, creating a little jingle (and oh, how I do adore a little jingle). I’m not too judge about these. I take ’em as they come. So I wrote it out and assigned some chords and voila, the next subject for a Sing Books with Emily Sing Along Poster.
