Invisible, Yes, but Music is Mystical, Magical, Mysterious

Posted on: March 13, 2017

Another quote from the lovely documentary ABOUT Ken Burns (Ken Burns: America’s Storyteller) the other night on PBS. This one from Wynton Marsalis:

“Music is the art of the invisible. So it is in the province of all invisible things inside the human being: thoughts, emotion, projections, memories, dreams…”

I love that music is purely expressive. You can’t SEE the art, you can only hear and feel it and be motivated by it. Music is mystical and magical and mysterious. What glorious magic it is to make something that is so engaging, but that cannot be seen. The magic of music stirs us, to feel, to act, to do, to make, to create, to share. It spurs us to engage in VERBS: that’s what’s happenin’!
