Sing Books with Emily, the Blog

Impression (after reading Mary Oliver, after watching a documentary about August Wilson, while contemplating my navel)

Every poem should have birds
I’m thinking of this
When I glimpse
Staring at me from across the room
An owl jar
Lift its head
Inside is another bird
No one knows its there but me
Lift my head
And a song comes out
Voice to the breeze
That carries it to dreamland
Winging my heart
Jubilant and sad
Like the hooting of that owl
