The More We Get Together, an Illustrated Song

Posted on: May 23, 2016

The value of a song like this is that it is a song everyone knows almost without even knowing that they know it.  Singing a well known song together creates a shared, community event, even when the song is as simple and sweet as this one.

And children love it when they can sing, and share with each other, something they know.  It gives them joy and confidence.

THE MORE WE GET TOGETHER
Traditional Words and Tune

The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we’ll be.

‘Cause your friends
Are my friends
And my friends
Are your friends.

The more we get together
The happier we’ll be.

This song uses the same tune as DID YOU EVER SEE A LASSIE.  Both tunes use an old Austrian tune (a walzing polka), Oh du lieber Augustin.
