The Sing Books with Emily No Books and No Accompaniment Needed Set Choices List

Posted on: April 14, 2016

THIS POST IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Something awful happened the other day.  I arrived at the school and went to the trunk of my station wagon to find it was empty!  My bag if illustrated songs, CD Player, and musical toys was left at home.  With my proverbial tail between my legs, I moped into the school to tell the classes that we couldn’t Sing Books because I had no books with me to sing.

On the way home, though, I got an idea.  One that might put a sliver lining on the sad situation.  I need to have a list of songs to choose from that require neither a book nor accompaniment.  All these songs might have books, but let’s just say there is a time when I don’t have the books or access to the music.  If I have this list handy, any group of kids and I can enjoy a long or short visit of music making no matter what.

So, here goes.

The sheets in this list are for planning purposes only.  For this list to work correctly, I’ll use them (and you can, too) to plan and practice, so that eventually, all I need is the list of song names (as prompts or reminders) to create an engaging and enjoyable visit of musical fun.

RANDOM NOTES ABOUT THE LIST

  • Choose simple songs, ones that don’t need a pitch pipe or help with melody
  • Find or make up movement as often as possible
  • Eventually make a video to demonstrate the movements to use for each song
  • These should all be interactive &/or sing-along songs
  • Choose songs that most people will already know, but maybe use new movements or new ideas about the songs (context?) to make them interesting

SONG IDEAS (NOT YET FULLY WORKED OUT) FOR THE LIST

*
Five Little Ducks (with movements)

*
Five Little Gefiltes (with movements)

*
Five Green and Speckled Frogs
(Each kid stands right where they are with hands at side. Each kids holds up fingers, choosing from 1-5.  However many fingers displayed becomes that child’s frog number. Now kids hold up hand with fingers that display number (stay with the number you chose, you don’t have to use a friend’s number.  All numbers are equally wonderful). Sing the song.  When we sing “Number 5 jumped into the pool…” every kid with 5 fingers up, gently sits down without invading space of anyone else. Then the same for 4, then 3, etc)

*
Choices from Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme Set

*
She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain
(sing this with same arrangement and hand movements as w limberhorse, but do the hambone style/horse gallop slaps on your thigh with the standard parts of the song)

*
President’s Name Song
