Sing Books with Emily, the Blog

Washington, DC’s National Gallery of Art Singable Scavenger Hunt

Posted on: March 6, 2016

This page is to document my project of scouring the Washington DC National Gallery of Art for Singable Treasures.  The goal is to visit every gallery to find every piece of art that might relate to something in the Sing Books repertoire.  The artwork does not necessarily need to depict music, but something related to the illustrated songs (or even a related idea).

I will go through the museum methodically over time, visiting each gallery in order and documenting my findings.  Surely I’ll miss things, passing by something relevant to my search, but I’ll just keep at it.

Why?  I don’t exactly know why.  Looking at and exploring art is always a worthwhile activity.  That seems good enough.  But with the additional goal of relating these great works to songs gives me additional incentive and connection to the art and the search itself.  Eventually, it would be fun to plan performances or scavenger hunts to celebrate the music and art.

I walked in the National Gallery Door on 3/5/2016, got a map, then headed for the first gallery on the ground floor. The search begins (and continues).
