A WISE OLD OWL
Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme
Traditional Words and Tune Adapted by ELEG for SBWE

A wise old owl lived in an oak,
The more she saw the less she spoke,
The less she spoke the more she heard,
Why can’t we all be like that wise old bird?

(I’m taking a 2015 Girl Power stand…my owl is a female!)

I listened to a few traditional tunes for this rhyme online and walked to my guitar with the traditionals ringing in my hear, but to make up my own version, adapted from the others:

I’m so excited this just arrived, a carved wood hooting owl whistle.  It’s a great size at 6″ tall and about 3.5″ wide.  I can’t wait for her to hoot before singing the rhyme!

Addendum, 6/12/2015

How does music get made?  I make music every day and the subject still mystifies me.  Over time, a few tunes have come to my head, though it was the performing of songs that got me going, I’ve not been educated in much music theory.  When I write a tune, I do it in the most rudimentary ways.

The process is fun, though.

First draft with tune only, no rhythms or musical markings yet.  There will be a fermata and rit. at the end, and some kind of ending:
