Rhymes and Ballads of London, a Singable Picture Book

Posted on: August 6, 2013

I love the 1970’s vintage look of the pictures in this book. I was immediately attracted to the images and how they reminded me of being a kid since this is what books looked like when I was growing up in the 1970’s.

The introduction of this book exclaims:

Children who live in London, England, love to sing songs and say poems about their city and its history.  You already know some of these songs, such as “London Bridge is Falling Down.” Bus some of them are new, and that is why this book is fun!  The “Street Cries” in this book used to be sung by people who sold things in the streets of London – potatoes, fried fish, and old clothes.  Other songs are about places in London.  For instance, “Oranges and Lemons” is a song about the bells of the famous churches in London and what children thing they say as they ring out.  So let’s have funa dn sing songs and read poems about London!
