I adore Simms Taback’s books.  My husband is Jewish, and I love how Mr. Taback infuses his work with lots of wonderful Jewish humor, heritage, and vocabulary.  For example, my husband once was illustrating some point in a conversation about a man who goes to a restaurant and asked the waiter to taste his soup.  It turns out the waiter can’t taste the man’s soup because there is no spoon.

Mr. Taback illustrated (literally) this story in his book,

Kabitzers and Fools (Tales My Zayda Told Me)
Written and Illustrated by Simms Taback

Here’s the story about the spoon,

Incidentally, this story was also made into a book, “The Soup Opera.”

Simms Taback’s book “Postcards from Camp,”

…makes a nice addition to research for the Singable Picture Book, “Hello Muddah Hello Faddah.”

Two posters by Simms Taback that seem appropriate to celebrate his life and wonderful work,

I love the proverb, “Just when the caterpillar though the world was over, it became a beautiful butterfly…”

Both these posters can be found on Mr. Taback’s website:
