Bart Goldberg has been my friend since the first days of school at Indiana University when we both lived at Collins Living and Learning Center. Kids who live at this wonderful place often hangout in the courtyard. Since lots of musical talent lives at Collins, on that first day, I’d brought my books of printed sheet music with me, but set them down and forgot to pick them up again. Bart must have found them, since I went to check the center’s lost and found to find Bart sitting in the office belting out tunes from my books. We’ve been friends ever since. Bart is still singing, too! I’m very proud and delighted to say that Bart is my friend.
I wrote and sang a Happy Birthday Limerick for Bart-ski:

Bart, you’re a mighty fine man
Since I met you, I’ve been a big fan
You sang songs from my books
From Collins Courtyard you took
And I knew I’d found
A friend almost as loud

You’re not obnoxious enough to hate,
Just obnoxious to be amusing..
(sung again)
And that’s how, you see
Bart-ski made friends with Emily-ski
