Sorry to hear about your experience with the teacher, but I completely agree about music making you feel better! I think I shared with you before, when I feel like I want to give up or when the kids won't listen or when I am just not at my best, I take out one of "Mrs. G's" books and songs and keep on singing till things get better. When I really need cheering up, I put on your cd with the book. Thank you for bringing joy to our classrooms! :-)

Ok, I'll bite. Yes, it was me who raised the question. And, in fact, my memory is that I said you could say the Grand Canyon came from the Colorado River. But . . . since the song invokes states rather than great rivers, I still think Howard Dietz missed the target on that lyric. Many great things come from Colorado: peaks, silver, big-horn sheep.

My comments were not intended in any way to imply that I didn't enjoy the song. Loved it. Great piece and executed to perfection.

As to Colorado canyons, I love many of them but my favorite is Glenwood Canyon. Had a great family white-water rafting trip through the canyon. We paused for a dip in the bubbling hot springs for which Glenwood is famous. We finished off with zip-line rides back and forth across the river.

Dear Beth, Thank you so much for this delightful note. I so appreciate the kind words and to know you are out there loving music and picture books. I have the privilege of singing to many classrooms of children a week (in grades K-5th grade). Besides my family, of course, it is the joy of my life to share the music (and everything that goes with them, including the books and song history) in live/intimate performances. Best wishes to you and please stay in touch! Emily

Hello Emily,

I have just discovered your FANTASTIC website on singable books. I am doing a research project for teacher librarian course I'm doing, and have chosen song storybooks as my topic. Well, you've got it covered and more!

I am a musician as well as librarian, so always like to include music in any way that I can. Of course, songs that are illustrated story books provide a way to integrate music and literacy, and there are so many great singable books out there.

I love Skidamrink, and your blog posting with all the links about the song is AMAZING!
