FROSTY THE SNOWMAN is a Singable Picture Book SURE THING.
If there isn’t a whole lot to be sure of in this world, you can be sure that a roomful of kids will be delighted when you pull “Frosty the Snowman” out of your SING bag.

FROSTY THE SNOWMAN
Words and Music by Steve Nelson and Jack Rollins
Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul,
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal.
Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say.
He was made of snow but the children
Know how he came to life one day.
There must have been some magic in that
Old silk hat they found.
For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around.
O Frosty the snowman
Was alive as he could be,
And the children say he could laugh
And play just the same as you and me.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.
Frosty the snowman knew
The sun was hot that day,
So he said, “Let’s run and
We’ll have some fun
Now before I melt away.”
Down to the village
With a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there
All around the square saying,
“Catch me if you can!”
He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop.
And he only paused a moment when
He heard him holler, “Stop!”
For Frosty the snow man
Had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye saying,
“Don’t you cry,
I’ll be back again some day.”
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Look at Frosty go.
Thumpetty thump thump,
Thumpety thump thump,
Over the hills of snow.

It is always fun to sing a song, even a-capella, especially with a tune as universally familiar as “Frosty,” but singing with music is always MORE fun.
For a “Frosty” instrumental sing-along, my favorite track is by Smoky Mountain Band on their album, “Christmas in the Smoky Mountains”
If you look for the whole album, “Frosty the Snowman” is on Track 3.
Purchase or preview the song, here:

I’ve got an affinity for this kind of bluegrass country musical arrangement played on these instruments which are exuberant and joyful with a twinge of sorrow.
If you use this track for singing Richard Cowdrey’s illustration (my admitted favorite), you’ll sing the song through twice and sing the “thumpety thump thump” refrain twice at the end.

Song History
First recorded by Gene Autry in 1950, “Frosty” was a song written with hopes of riding on the popular sleigh bells of Rudolph.
