We thought today’s Sing Books in Mrs. Howard’s class was going to be supplanted by the 4th grade chorus and instrumental concerts (in which my son Mo played the fife and sang!). But it turned out we had plenty of time to sing a delicious stack of books to usher in the holidays:

Five Little Gefiltes
Traditional Tune (Sing to the tune of “Five Little Ducks”)
Words Adapted by Dave Horowitz
Illustrated by Dave Horowitz
I’ve been singing “Five Little Gefiltes,” in honor of Hanukkah. Though it isn’t a Hanukkah song, I love that it celebrates some delightful aspects of Jewish culture, including food, Yiddish, and humor. This is one of my top favorite Singable Picture Books of all. Though I’ve sung it many times, it never fails to make me giggle.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Words and Music by Johnny Marks
Published by World International Publishing Limited, Great Britain, 1989
ISBN #: 7235-8891-0
This is the only copy I’ve ever found of “Rudolph” the SONG. All other Rudolphs I’ve found have been the original story book by Robert L. May (the story upon which the song is based). It will be great fun to sing the song with the youngsters. They are going to love it!
