Doll Box, 1987, by Wayne Thiebaud
Wayne Thiebaud is one of my favorite artists. It was fun to find an article about the artist and his work in Smithsonian Magazine and revisit a Singable Picture Book in my collection, discover that another can be sung, and CREATE a book to sing using Thiebaud’s DELICIOUS art!
Smithsonian Magazine published an article about Wayne Thiebaud in its February 2011 issue:

It is always fun to visit his paintings in the East Wing of the National Gallery of Art, including,

It was also fun to discover this book in my daughter’s library, which you can sing to the tune of “Twinkle Little Star,”

Sing to the Tune of Twinkle Little Star
I love to hear an artists work described in a way that nutshells my grandest hopes for “Sing Books,”
“His work is about celebrating the art of living”
Allan Stone, Thiebaud’s first art dealer on CBS Sunday Morning, May 10, 2008
I really do think that anyone who sings a book with a child (enjoying the synthesis of picture art, music, instruments, words, voice, and audience, quality time and LOVE) is celebrating, enriching and practicing the fine art of living.
Thiebaud himself said, “If we don’t have a sense of humor, we lack a sense of perspective.” Making it all fun is part of the journey as well.
PS: It just so happens that today (February 17, 2011) is my daughter Eloise’s birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELOISE!

I sincerely hope that Mr. Thiebaud won’t mind (he is one of my favorite artists), but I made a booklet using online images of his DELICIOUS artwork so that kids can sweetly sing the Happy Birthday song.
