“Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bat,” A Singable Poem with Pictures and a Play on a Classic
Posted on: January 4, 2011
I’ve written about “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat” in posts related to songs that use the same tune, but I’ve decided that it deserves its very own post, since it holds its own with such charm and is such a fun song to sing.
If you read carefully, you will find an irreverent take on “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star“ in “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland,” when the Mad Hatter sings “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Bat.”
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you’re at!
Up above the world you fly,
Like a tea tray in the sky.

This famous illustration of the Mad Hatter singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Bat” is from illustrator John Tenniel.
