I am thrilled to announce that my project “Sing Books with Emily, the Cabaret” has been awarded a 2011 Individual Artist Spotlight Grant from the Arlington County Commission for the Arts.
This special cabaret is for FAMILIES, for children AND grown-ups to enjoy together, and will draw from the “Singable Picture Book” repertoire,
which is represented in the Singable Bookshelf Listing: http://singbookswithemily.wordpress.com/singable-books-a-working-list/.
The grant includes the recording of a CD with vocal tracks of songs in the show, a booklet with information on each song and its Singable Picture Book, and instrumental tracks so that children, parents, caregivers, and educators can sing the books themselves.
I am overjoyed and honored to have the opportunity to share the wonderful world of Singable Picture Books AND the wonderful Art Form of Cabaret, and since this project will be partly funded by the community, I will take great pleasure in sharing the process and progress in this blog.
My dear friend Judy Simmons is directing the cabaret with me and we are already hard at work narrowing the song list from the hundreds of potential candidates.
The first performance is due by end of June of 2011.
STAY TUNED!
“Sing Books with Emily, the Cabaret” is supported in part by Arlington County through the Cultural Affairs Division of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources and the Arlington Commission for the Arts (www.ArlingtonArts.org).
